The Little French... Uh....Plastic Table

When I first spotted this table, I immediately gravitated to it, totally drooling over it's sweet curves.  Upon closer inspection, I was quite surprised to see that it was not made of wood, but a molded plastic!  Well, the top is formica and pressed board, but nonetheless, it's a heavy and quite sturdy table.  So....I took the chance.

You wouldn't know at first, huh?

Closer look at the legs....

Nice "carvings"!

Now look at it with a couple of coats of paint.

I chose to use American Paint Company paint on this one.  I used Rushmore as the base and topped it with Home Plate.  I wet sanded it to expose some of the Rushmore.

I gave it several coats of clear and dark wax.

I would have to say that this is a trash to treasure happy ending!

You can find this at our newest location at RVA Antiques!  Opening this weekend!!  More information and sneak peek tomorrow!

Moving Forward...

I am one to never let the grass grow under my toes!  Over the last month, we've made several changes to our business.  First, we are now committed to doing a lot more in the vintage market arena, soon to be traveling to various locations throughout the year.  I can't begin to tell you how much I love doing them and meeting so many people! One thing I miss after closing our store is the interaction with our customers, and these allow us to once again be directly involved.  On the downside, because of the amount of work involved in doing the shows, we had to give up our room at Deep Creek Vintage to allow for more time to prepare for them.

However, you can still find us at Through the Garden Gate Antiques!  This is my heart place and playing in our space is so much fun! You can find me there several times a week fluffing and bringing in new goodies.  I am hoping that one day we can get more space, but for now, I'm making do.

We also have our small space at A Unique House in King George.  Right now, we have a 20% off sale on the booth!

I also want to put a lot more time into my blogging and begin to feature some planned "renovations on a budget" in our home, along with more furniture transformations.  At the top of our list is our kitchen and basement.  I have so many plans and am extremely excited to begin!

The Lucketts Spring Market - Another GREAT Show!

Wow....you know how you feel when you eagerly anticipate summer vacation for a long time - and when it's over, you suddenly feel like there's a new found void in your life?  That's exactly how I feel this morning.  We have been working non-stop for months getting ready for the Lucketts Spring Market, as well as The Vintage Home Market just a couple of weeks ago.  I do have some shows lined up through the holidays, but for the next month, I can take it somewhat easy!  Yay.

As far as Lucketts, I can say that it was a FABULOUS show and we had a great weekend.  Luckily, the trailer was a LOT lighter coming home. :)  There were some challenges with parking and traffic, but it didn't stop the crowds from getting in!  We were blessed with gorgeous weather this year as opposed to the rainy weekend last year.  Unfortunately, there were heavy downpours on Thursday which made for lots of mud, but it all worked out to be a great weekend!

Here are some pictures of our tent this year:

This cow painting is probably the one thing I shouldn't have let get away. :)  I love her...

As you see in this picture, the line Saturday morning was very long!!  Notice the pond?  That is actually supposed to be the parking area...  There was a lot of rain last week....

I didn't get a chance to walk around and take a lot of pictures, but here are few on our row.

I have to admit that one of the highlights of the weekend for me was finally getting a picture with Marian Parsons - aka Miss Mustard Seed.  I've spoken with her several times over the years, but this time I was able to catch her Sunday morning before the crowds ascended upon us.  I tried to convince her mom to join us, but couldn't get her to.  They are both just the sweetest!

I learned a couple of things this weekend....  First, use sunscreen (notice the v-neck sunburn?), and I am allergic to hay.  My eyes itched and swelled all weekend...but hey, it was better than having the furniture sitting in mud!  One of the trade-offs of doing outdoor shows, but oh so well worth it.

Now, a couple of days of rest, then back to working the booths!

Sometimes, You Just Need to Look Past the Ugly....

Many, many times I will buy the most ugliest piece at auction - then be amused by the looks I get as I proudly walk out with my "prize...
